When people (mostly terfy lesbians) say “oh if I was young today, I’d probably transition, and I’d regret it.”
(as a way of implying that modern Trans Ideology has gone Too Far)
my response is always
“Oh?”
“At what specific point in the transition process would you start regretting it?”
Transition is a long bumpy complex process where you make a hundred little decisions about what sort of life you want, and most of the decisions are reversible! You don’t just press a button, turn into a Man, and then go “ohhh noooo what have I done, now I’m stuck.”
When would you start regretting? 1 month on T? 10 months on T? What dosage would you be on? Would you regret it once you started passing as male? Would you, specifically, even be able to pass as male? Would you regret it when other lesbians stopped being attracted to you? (Keeping in mind that this will never happen, because there will always be some lesbian-identified people who are horny for trans men.)
What specifically would you regret about it? The changes to your body? Most are reversible, and plenty of lesbians are happier being physically androgynous. Would you regret the lost social connection with women and lesbianism? Because you can always get that back if you detransition.
On your genderventure, you’ll have a thousand chances to say “hmm this isn’t working for me,” whether “this” is “a specific aspect of gender” or “the whole project.”
So when people say “ooh if I was young today, I’d probably be a trans man, how awful”
All I hear is:
“If I was young today, I’d transition, and I would not be able to stop transitioning”
“because I’d be happier that way.”
Like if you see “transition” as this inexorable black hole drawing you closer, where if you trip and fall in, you’ll never be able to get out again… then maybe….. you should transition.
If you see being a butch lesbian as a heavy difficult burden you have to nobly carry, and you see being a trans man as a seductive get-out-of-jail-free card that you have to actively resist like Jesus resisting temptation in the wilderness……… maybe you should just transition.
